Flights
Cancellations and refunds
What comes back if you cancel a flight, what does not, and how long it takes. Read this before you book, not after.
The short version
The airline decides how much of your fare can be refunded. The Waykaro service fee and the card processing fee are not refunded if you cancel. Whatever the airline does refund comes back to Waykaro first in most cases, and Waykaro pays it on to you — it does not land on your card the moment you press cancel.
The airline's fare rules decide the fare
Every ticket is sold under the airline's own fare rules. A cheap fare is usually the least refundable one: some can be refunded in full, some only after a cancellation charge the airline sets, and some cannot be refunded at all once they are issued. Waykaro cannot overrule those rules, and neither can the airline's call centre.
Before you confirm a cancellation we ask the airline what it will actually refund and show you that figure. If the airline will not quote one, we say so plainly rather than guess.
What is never refunded
The Waykaro service fee and the card processing fee are not refunded if you cancel.
The Waykaro service fee is not refunded when a booking is cancelled — it paid for making the booking, and that work has been done.
The card processing charge is not returned either. Duffel keeps its card fee when a refund is issued, so it cannot come back.
Both are shown as separate lines before you pay, on the checkout page and again on your confirmation, precisely so that this is never a surprise later.
How the refund reaches you
Where the money goes depends on how the airline settles it. Sometimes the airline returns it straight to the card you paid with, and card refunds usually take five to ten working days to appear on a statement. More often the airline settles it to Waykaro, and Waykaro then pays it on to you.
In that second case we contact you to arrange it. It is not instant, it is not automatic, and nobody should tell you it has arrived until it has. Your booking page says which of the two applies to your booking once the cancellation is quoted.
Changing a booking instead of cancelling
Changes are made by the airline, under the same fare rules, and usually cost a change fee plus any difference in fare. Write to us with your booking reference and what you need changed, and we will tell you what the airline will do and what it will cost before anything is altered.
If the airline cancels, not you
That is a different situation and the fare rules above do not apply to it. If an airline cancels your flight, you are entitled to whatever that airline's own policy and the rules of the country you are flying from give you. Tell us and we will pursue it with them on your behalf.
If your card was charged but you have no ticket
Your money is held, not lost. Waykaro contacts you within one working day to either book you onto another flight for the same money or return every cent of it. Do not pay a second time, and do not book again yourself until you have heard from us.
How to cancel
Open your booking on find my booking — you will need your reference and the email you booked with — or from your account if you booked while signed in. You are shown what the airline will refund, and what is not coming back, before you confirm anything.
You can also ask us to do it. Write to support@waykaro.com, or message +16148085375 on WhatsApp. Quote your booking reference and say clearly that you want the booking cancelled.
Stays and car rental
Those are not open for booking yet. Reservations made with a Liberian property or rental company before now are covered by the stays and car rental cancellation policy, which is unchanged.
